Two Passionate College Friends + A Mission to Inspire Women to Live Their Best Lives = The 40 Something Lifestyle!

Meet Lisa Dorsey Williams and Meisha Malone Carrington…the brilliant duo behind “The 40 Something Lifestyle.” Meisha and Lisa have similar stories as many of us do. They both are progressive, career women, with beautiful families, and are in constant pursuit of living their best lives. Although they were content with their lives prior to developing The 40 Something Lifestyle, they both knew there was something bigger…something more meaningful; which would allow them to have an even more positive impact within their communities. After years of contemplating what that “missing something” was, Lisa and Meisha developed The 40 Something Lifestyle, which is debuting it’s First Annual Girls Trip July 2018, in New Orleans during the Essence Festival.

I’ve known both Lisa and Meisha for over 20+ years; we met while attending Norfolk State University. We share an extremely supportive and loving best friend who has been the glue to us staying in contact over the years. We are very proud of these two beauties for following their dreams and creating such an impactful movement. Enjoy the read and don’t forget to do that thing you’ve been wanting to do!

1. What is “The 40 Something lifestyle?”

The 40 Something Lifestyle started out as a blog for women 40 and over, but since then, it has taken on a life of its own and branched out into a women’s empowerment movement and travel community.  A community where women in and around their 40’s can come together and network, empower, and inspire each other to live their best lives.  As women, sometimes we need a community of other women that we can look to, and look up to for doing great things, whether as entrepreneurs, corporate gurus, or leaders in our communities.

This is a community of women who are married, single, have kids, no kids, entrepreneurs, corporate women, women who take care of the home and kids 24-7, but also where women younger than 40, and over 50 can relate to, and share their stories.  We would like for women to share the good, the bad, and the ugly because our success is never a piece of cake.  This will empower other women to embrace the struggle, and keep the faith.

2. Why did you and your partner develop the brand?

As women, now in our 40’s, who are married with kids and careers, always dreamt of owning our own businesses. We looked at our own lives and realized that God had blessed us with beautiful and loving families, jobs, but still we felt there was something missing, something we had been

longing to do, and that was to become entrepreneurs.

3.    Tell us about your annual empowerment brunch and why you started this event?

We have created our first Girls Trip, to New Orleans, for this year’s Essence Festival 2018, which is also a women’s empowerment trip to include an All White Brunch, an All Black Masquerade Dinner Party, along with a Welcome Happy Hour for the ladies to mingle and unwind.  During the brunch and dinner, the women will enjoy games, great conversations, and photo ops, all surrounding our purpose and mission of women living their best life through sharing experiences, networking, inspiration, empowerment, and how to be in control of their future destiny. We will also discuss things like beauty secrets, fashion, love, and relationships. (If you are interested in attending the brunch or dinner in New Orleans, please contact the 40 Something Lifestyle on Face Book or Instagram @40_something_lifestyle)

4.    What should attendees expect?

Attendees should expect a fantastic time because we are partnering with one of Philadelphia’s best event companies, EH Legacy Events (@eh_legacy_events), owned and operated by Alisa Hill.

5. Why did you choose New Orleans as the destination for your annual brunch?

We chose New Orleans because it is such a great city with a lot of rich history; and during Essence Fest because that is truly a time where women come together to do all the things we stand for, which is to network, empower, and inspire.

6.    Why is such an event important for you all?

This event is important because it gives women an opportunity to bond, network, and to create lasting memories; not just with the friends they already have, but to potentially make new ones.

7.    What advice would you offer someone who is interested in developing empowerment events?

The advice we’d offer to other women, would be to do it for a purpose that is near and dear to your heart because you want people to feel the genuineness of what you are putting out there.

8.    What advice would you offer someone going into business with their best friend?

The advice we’d offer to someone who is going into business with their best friend is that you truly have to have love, admiration and respect for your friend because at the end of the day, you may not always agree on something, you will just have to agree to disagree, and know that nothing is worth your friendship.

9. Where do you see yourselves in the next 5 years?

With God’s help, in the next 5 years we pray that we are still impacting women’s lives and traveling to do empowerment trips, workshops, conferences, etc. Next year, we are adding a panel of guest speakers to our agenda, who will share their success stories.

10. Wha is your favorite scripture?

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the lord, plans for welfare, and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

11. What is your favorite quote?

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” ~Our Angel, Dr. Maya Angelou
