Balancing Act…figuring out how to make time to do what you love.

  • Posted on Nov 14, 2017

Whether it’s your career, family, school, etc; oftentimes, we feel we do not have time to properly manage our lives. The thought of adding an additional task to our daily schedules, even if it is following our passion, can be quite overwhelming.

With that said, it is imperative, we learn how to best manage and balance our lives, to make time to pursue our passions. Easier said than done, I know, however, pursuing your passion, whatever it may be, is absolutely critical in ensuring positive progression of your well being.

Here are 5 tips to get AND keep you on the right track to pursuing your dreams.

1. Dedicate a minimum of 20 minutes a day to your craft.

Whether it’s research, brainstorming, or writing a to-do list. Do something every day. That initial 20 minutes will become, 30 minutes, an hour, and continue to escalate. When you do what you love, it doesn’t feel like work. Time flies. After you’ve been diligent and consistent, you will look up and realize you’re much closer to making your dreams a reality.

2. Surround yourself with like-minded people.

Join local and/or national groups, attend conferences, subscribe to publications, newsletters, follow individuals, businesses, and groups, you find interesting on social media and network.

3. Communicate and let people know what your passions are.

It is more likely than not, someone you network or communicate with knows something about the industry you’re interested in pursuing. If they don’t know firsthand, they may know someone who does. You will never find out, if you’re not communicating and sharing your aspirations.

4. Create a plan and put it on paper.

Creating a plan is essential in accomplishing goals. For me…writing my goals down is extremely important. As I accomplish baby steps that eventually lead to accomplishments I mark them off, and move on the to next task, which provides a sense of accomplishment. By writing your plans down. You literally see your plans working.

5. Start today and stop making excuses

Start your pursuit today. Stop making excuses regarding why your plan won’t work. Your future self will be proud.
