1. Where did the idea to author Love Under Fire come from?

I always had a dream of writing a book. The past year has really been a struggle.  Once I found a medium of expression, I prayed everyday and let my expressions have its way.

2. Was there any apprehension disclosing your personal experiences?

Well for years I was very apprehensive to be honest. However, once I felt a need to feel free and my desire for a “no judgement zone,” I decided to disclose my personal experiences. That decision has allowed me to release any previous apprehension. Now I’m free.

3. How do you balance life as a wife, mom, career woman, emerging doctoral candidate, in addition to various other ventures?

To be honest… I just look at my children and know they are my reasons for living and everything I do is for them. My career has taken a forward lunge and has given me the opportunity that I thought would never come true, so I take that very seriously and am very humble to be in the position I’m in today. My education has opened doors to many resources and now the ability to apply for the Doctoral program or even law school is a wonderful feeling. Dr. Wooten here I come!

4. What advice do you offer aspiring authors?

If it’s for you, God will open the door and give you the power to walk in it and not through it. Don’t wait, step out and conquer your fears and allow your dreams to manifest. It takes a lot of hard work, just understand and know that God doesn’t place anything on you that you can’t bear.

5. What advice do you offer someone who is dealing with writer’s block?

Take time to yourself and carve out an hour or two and just block out your mind, focus and just write, write and write.

6. What type of writing schedule did you develop and maintain to ensure completion of “Love Under Fire?”

I stayed in compliance with my mentor and our schedule. I made sure I met deadlines and always made quiet time for me.

7. How would you like to see your brand flourish in the next 5 years?

My brand will develop into one that I have always envisioned. Noticed and personable, it’ll match my F.L.Y. (My motto…FLY= First Love Yourself) I have a lot of plans to expand my brand as well. For example, life/relationship coaching, cosmetics and I can’t forget my love for interior décor.

8. What career advice would you offer your younger self?

Stay focused and again, F.L.Y.

9. What do you want the “take away” for readers to be?

Forgiveness is from within and know God makes no mistakes. If he can forgive us for our sins, then yes, we can forgive someone else.

10. What is your favorite bible verse?

Psalm 51: specifically 10-12. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit.

11. What is your WHY?

With the many things we have to do on a regular basis, life can be quite challenging, so the obvious are my children. And although it can be quite demanding to balance motherhood, being a wife, and a business owner, we have to make time. We have to find the strength and courage to bring awareness into our lives and be true to ourselves. If we don’t seek to find, to know, and to understand the purpose of life, and the reason for our existence, chances are we will continue to live by default; betraying ourselves and thinking it’s okay to walk on a path that is not ours to walk upon.
